Question Joomla 1.0x or 1.5?

I have been using Joomla recently and think it is an excellent feature rich content management system. However, which interface should I use?

Joomla 1.0x and Joomla 1.5 are different tools. They install the same but under the hood they are completely different. There is no upgrade path from 1.0x, your site must be migrated if you want to transfer from one to the other.

The components are comprehensive for Joomla but have to be designed specifically for 1.0x or 1.5. Many developers having to resort to separate version of the application for 1.0x and 1.5. If you have a favorite 1.0x component then there is a possibility that there isn't a 1.5 version. And some 1.5 components never existed as 1.0x versions.

There are lots of excellent template sites. I use siteground.com a lot. But once again templates do not work with 1.0x and 1.5 as the installer behaves differently. A quick scout around the siteground Joomla template site will show the lovely stylish templates that you can build for 1.5 but at the cost of sacrificing functionality that is available in 1.0x.

Anyone else out there struggled with the dilema of functions verses style?

Joomla is an opensource CMS, based on Mambo. An excellent accompaniment to X10 free, ad-free, hosting.

Re: Joomla 1.0x or 1.5?

I always have the latest version of Joomla on my website (http://earthtimegames.co.cc), and the only problem I found is that most of the plugins etc only work with 1.x

I would recommend using 1.5 because it's just nicer :-P (It's also probably more secure)

Re: Joomla 1.0x or 1.5?

Sorry I couldn't link to your site.

I agree 1.5 has some great templates but a lot of the non-commercial components are for 1.0x and this is what I need.

I have a couple of live sites using joomla.

www.prestonharriers.net/j

www.prestonmusicalcomedy.co.uk

Don't know what they are worth but each gets around 12000 visitors a month.

Nice sites. The reason you couldn't see mine is that Absolut is currently down.

The only plugin that I currently can't find a free version for 1.5 is the Auto-Archive thing. I would really like that, but I don't want to have to pay.

Thanks. My other site is currently on a suspended account

This seems to be a pattern here at X10Hosting...
