Re: Firefox-3 About 9000 downloads per minute

I participated in this, but I think Mozilla bungled it somewhat.

See, I received an e-mail reminder in the morning on that day to download. Too bad it wasn't time synced to my time zone at all. I live in the EDT time zone, think I'd care enough to find out what time it is on UTC?

To make matters worse, the download page only had Firefox 2 as a final release and listed Firefox 3 as a public beta (even after refreshing the page for a while). I gave up and came back later in the day to make the download.

So I think my download counted in the record period. Or maybe not. Whatever.

Re: Firefox-3 About 9000 downloads per minute

I did about 20 downloads myself. 6 for my computers, and the rests were for friend's computers and some other people's computers.

the author seems like he disbelieves the amount of people that downloaded it. why would mozilla lie? they are not driven by corporate goals unlike another browser i know.

I dont think theyre counting duplicate downloads:

Quote:
"Logs from the download servers have been handed to the Open Source Labs at Oregon State University for auditing. The scrutiny will ensure duplicate and unfinished downloads are not counted. The verification process could take a week to complete."

Arrow Firefox 3 security compromised

Somebody has already reported a serious security flaw with Mozilla's latest version of Firefox that was released and downloaded by millions of users last week.
The security flaw was reported to TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative and Mozilla has been informed of the details, so we will no doubt see a fix for the problem in the next Firefox 3 update.

We are waiting to hear on more details about that from Mozilla, so will be sure to keep you informed.
