Online Gambling
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060710/...ernet_gambling
To increase the pressure on gambling websites and gamblers, Congress wants to enforce the ban on gambling by restricting credit cards and electronic payment (i.e. PayPal)
I believe gambling is a great source of tax revenue.. the government shouldn't interfere with an opportunity to make money; I wish they would legalize gambling here in Texas so then we'd have more money for our educational system and help pay for the salaries of the constantly decreasing police force
What's your opinion?

Re: Online Gambling
Yes people may think that the goivernment maybe missing on a really good chance to make heaps but in reality, the probably make more money else where from things like cigarette packets sold, alcohol, petrol (well in Australia anyway), Toll roads, Land taxes and the list could go on and on

This seemingly intertwines with the debate over net neutrality; the government is asking ISP's to block certain gambling websites that break the law.. interesting eh?

Re: Online Gambling
I feel that gambling should and shouldnt be banned.
I feel that it shouldnt that, yes it is a great source of income of money for the government, as all people do is sit there on the fruit machines and at the black jack tables wasting away money, that they don't actually have.
Which brings me to my next point, that it shold, as it would stop a hell of a lot of people from getting into debt, which means they would have more money to spend on other things such as ciggerettes and alcahol.
So in either way it is kind of a win/win situation aint it!
Please this is an interesting topic, so reply people.

Re: Online Gambling
I don't see why certain state governments ban gambling. Is it because some people have gambling problems? Well, some people have drinking/smoking problems, but drinking and smoking are both legal. In my opinion, the state government has no business playing "Mom" for its respective citizens.
I personally do not gamble, but I am not against it. Hell, I'd love it if Massachusetts opened up a state-run casino. That would surely earn extra money for the school systems and other issues.

Re: Online Gambling
It is impossible to totally remove all gambling site. Some operate illegal, other host their site at other country server. Matter in fact, instead of trying to remove such site, why don't educate the people instead. Educate don't work totally at all in my opinion. The government should realise, as long as a hardcore gambler want to gamble, there is already a way.

Re: Online Gambling
If all states or the US outright ban gambling - does that mean those Church Bingo nights would be illegal?? ...
In my state of Montana, they have "casino's" nearly everywhere ... their version of casinos are just slot machines ( Keno and whatnot ) ... When I lived in Oregon, they had the full-fledged casinos ( Poker, Blackjack, etc ) ...
Some bars have Poker nights ... so, if gambling like this is illegal ( like its legal in Nevada ) why is it allowed like this?? ...
Either ban it and find something else to pick on, or allow it and just regulate better.

As long as they can keep their casinos away from children (thinking about the popups when I was about 10)
