About PortableApps

i have this WD External HDD which i just turned into my PortableApps USB device.

the question is, will it cause too much load(cycles, i guess) on the external HDD? will it cause physical damage to the external disk?

the external hdd has like 120 GB storage.. havnt gone halfway yet...

replies are appreciated....

Re: About PortableApps

Hard Drives are pretty tough things, so I wouldn't worry about damage unless you're seriously using it rapidly for a long time. If it's starting to act up, then I'd be worried.

Re: About PortableApps

External hard drives are basically the same as internal drives, only with a USB cable. It's when you're using PortableApps or something like MojoPac on a flash drive (which has limited read/write cycles) where you should worry.

When it comes to writing over time, you should be more worried about flash drives since they have limited write cycles. I've got a 2 gig hard drive from 1994 and it's still going (WD)

Re: About PortableApps

I have PortableApps on my 4GB SanDisk Cruzer usb. But I mostly use Firefox Portable.
I have been using it for more than a year and it is still working the same as I bought it.
