Yeah we really need a budget - But good things to look for in Generalare Core2 Duo, 2GB RAM and over 80GB Hard Drive. If you get those things then you should be good to go - also look out for the Graphics chip/memory if you want to game on it

If you are looking for a discount laptop that is good, I would suggest a Dell Inspiron. I have their Inspiron 1501 and it is very nice and works great with Kubuntu Linux. The problem with Dell is that they enforce high pressure sales tactics and may try to give you more than you ordered, and charge you a huge fee for that more. They gave me $600 in extras for my $500 laptop when all I wanted was a basic $500 laptop.

If you are looking for gaming I would suggest not even getting a laptop. Desktops are a much better choice for gaming as they can be much more easily upgraded.

If you are stuck with winblows I would highly suggest trying to find a laptop with XP installed and completely avoid the huge mistake called vista. As always, I suggest the use of Linux, with Kubuntu being a great flavour of Linux.

If you want a laptop with XP, you have until June 18 with Dell. After that date, all their computers will have Vista, and you must purchase a downgrade license to get XP.

Oh I would like to add that CNET did a study, and found that roughly all laptop manufacturers have an average 20% failure rate of laptops. Apple was the highest with 23%, and I believe HP and Lenovo were the lowest with 20%

I suggest keeping up with websites that advertise special deals
