Unhappy Why does my DVD drive burn so slow?

I am burning a DVD and my drive says that it can burn up to 16x but it is only buring at a very low speed of 0.78x, why so slow?

My PC Stats: (That I know of)
> I have an HP Media Center PC
> 200gb Hard Drive
> A low 512mb RAM
> 16x DVD (+,-) Lightscribe Drive
> Windows XP

It says that it will take me an hour to burn 3.4gb!

Does anyone know how to help?

Hmm...I've had some serious slow burning issues in Windows Move Maker, but I see thats not what you are using.
Whats the speed of the disk?

Re: Why does my DVD drive burn so slow?

Lets see...

Its says "up to 16x".

Well its been an hour now and I only have 10min left, but I still need to figure this out...

Edit: Damn! It jumped up to 20min from 5min!

Re: Why does my DVD drive burn so slow?

yeah, it sounds like it might be a problem with the software speed setting. Are you burning an image file or does Sonic need to encode it all first then burn... might just be taking ages to encode.

yeah, i would of thought if its burning a DVD Video, it will be encoding them first... unless there already on your HDD as .vob files... :\

anyway... you should of tried to do it years ago when 16x dvd-rw drives were fantasy :P

"Why does my DVD drive burn so slow?"
-because you're not using enough petrol!

Seriously though, is the problem to do with creating the image? You might try defragging your hard drive. Have you got the right dvd setting (is it a data disk?). Also, try opening up your pc, check which way the cables are plugged in (master/slave?) and if the jumpers are set correctly.
