Ubuntu 8.04 and KDE4!
Yes, Ubuntu has upgraded again(ah the joy of steady releases and Open Source Operating Systems(OSOS, funny acronym..)) and it seems to be getting good. There are links at the bottom of this post.
Of course you get lots of nice new applications bundled with the OS. Firefox 3(beta) is one that tops my list.
Of course I'm more into KDE so Kubuntu is what I'm looking at now. You can get it with KDE 3.5 or KDE 4.
There is one interesting thing that I was excited about and I think any Linux user and computer nerd will love. NTFS support. Yes, yes, linux did support NTFS somewhat before, but now you can read AND write! Maybe I missed something before, but this is the first time I've ever seen such a thing. I'm not sure if NTFS partitions can be created and how well the file system is integrated, but I do know you can view your NTFS partition and even save files to it. I also only saw this on the Kubutnu page and not anywhere on the Ubuntu one. It might only be on Kubuntu...
And here are some links as promised for you to check this out. YES THIS IS STILL BETA. But the release is about 20 days away so it is pretty safe to download.
Ubuntu 8.04 - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/hardy/beta
Kubuntu 8.04 - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardyHeron/Beta/Kubuntu
Wubi - http://wubi-installer.org/
*Wubi(Windows Ubuntu Installer?) lets you install Ubuntu from within Windows and you don't even have to make a new partition.

Ubuntu 8.04 out??? Sheesh, I just got the Ubuntu 7.10 shipped out to me. I was going to install it, but I think I'll wait a bit to see what goes. Thanks for the info though.

I prefer the new gnome to the new KDE at the moment. That is to say.... it is the lesser of two evils

Re: Ubuntu 8.04 and KDE4!
Yeah, I've got 8.04a installed on three machines, a laptop and two 'frankensteins' (pieced together from older parts). It's running pretty well on all three.
Ubuntu's had NTFS read/write support for quite a while now, at least since 7.04 or 7.10. And before that, if you googled the subject it usually turned up an easy-to-follow tutorial.
GParted has also been able to manipulate my NTFS partitions - I think on the LiveCD I had moved mine so I could clean some stuff up [that I screwed up earlier].

Re: Ubuntu 8.04 and KDE4!
Ubuntu 8.4 is in Beta right now. I do have a few Live Disks sitting around right now, but once Ubuntu 8 comes out, I'll download the ISO (won't take too long, 700MB is around 10 minutes at the most) and try it out and see how it matches with Fedora Core 8.

Re: Ubuntu 8.04 and KDE4!
You could read/write to NTFS for awhile now with linux using NTFS-3G.
