Placement of Fan Near GPU?

So I got tired of having to hear my PC's fans rev like nuts after hours of playing Halo, so I decided to buy an expansion slot fan to alleviate the situation. My PC is running louder due to the additional fan, but at least it remains cool (or so it seems). I am concerned about the positioning of the fan; since the fan blows air out of the PC, wouldn't it be harmful to have it sucking air from the heatsink?

To illustrate, which of these configurations would allow maximum cooling?

Config A)

Config B)

My PC is currently in configuration B, as I figure that having some space between the graphics card and the fan would be beneficial.

Also, could anyone recommend some GPU heat measuring software? I currently use SIW for system info, but it only detects my hard drive temp sensors (hard drive cooling fan is next!)

No, it would be beneficial to have it sucking air away for the GPU as long as you have something blowing cool air in the case. Fans are all great and everything but if you can't create airflow then your basically moving around hot air. Config B is the way I would go.

I think that first config is best choice. You can also install a ventilator on your PC Case. My friend have two big and CPU and GPU was much colder

One thing you have to remember:
Hot air goes up!

And basically what you want in your case is to make a wind blow through,
Eith from front to back, or from back to front, sideways, or vertically.
As long as all the air is moving in 1 direction, and that is out!

so you don't really want one fan blowing one way, and another blowing the opposite.

I have five fans in my comp and that seems to keep it from overheating. 3 from the case, on the PSU and one on the CPU.

My CPU temp is 65 Degrees Centigrade/145 Degrees Farenheight. It should be no higher than 60 so it is slightly overheating, but there is no problem in the running of the computer.

Alright well I've stuck to configuration B; all my temps have dropped 10 degrees, and my newly added HDD cooler has dropped almost 20 for my hard drive! Thanks

That's a good drop in temp.
