From my experience i learned that there is no need to submit sites to search engines.Search engine will crawl the site automatically if the site is well linked with other sites.A good search engine(like google) will take a good site for crawling automatically.

Not entirely true. When I first set up my site on a home server, I had submitted my site to Google, Yahoo!, Live and the Wayback machine. Google showed up a week after submittion, Yahoo showed up within a day, but Live showed up within the hour of submittion. The Wayback Machine showed up within two weeks, only reading my Robots.txt file and then disappearing.
